EXPERIENCED CONSULTANTS

UK women’s wear retailer Hobbs is a global brand operating from 128 outlets, half of which are standalone stores and the other half concessions. When PLM was asked to review the lighting estate, poor, inefficient and aged lighting was quickly identified. this was producing high levels of heat, lamps failing regularly and maintenance costs spiralling due to the lamp types installed and number of call outs.

THE BRIEF

Following a full review of the lighting estate, the most beneficial route was to remove old inefficient light fixtures and replace with led throughout the sales floors and changing rooms delivering payback in less than 3 years. To understand the maximum benefit achievable from an led solution we trialled various led fixture options in front-of-house at the Leadenhall store.

Reducing the requirement for decorating works, the existing holes were used from the removed light fixtures and replaced with made to order led and swan neck fixtures. this involved a full retrofit of all existing light fixtures. low voltage halogen lamps were removed in basement changing rooms to reduce excessive heat.

THE RESULTS

  • Improved light levels by over 25% with better quality light enhancing displays and Hobbs apparel
  • Lighting energy cost reduced by 80%
  • Reduced maintenance and improved the lighting ambience in the store significantly
  • Under 3-year payback
  • The lessons learnt from Leadenhall are now being used and rolled out to other stores – the average energy savings have been in excess of 60%.
